Back to school time can be an exciting and scary time for us moms! Whether it is our child’s first time going to school (talk about separation anxiety!), a new grade, or a new school; it can be a time of uncertainty. Finding out that my son has ADHD and dealing with the teachers, principal, pediatrician, etc. was a scary time for me last year! But I know that God doesn’t want me looking to the past. He doesn’t want you to either!
Isaiah 43: 18-19 says:
Pray and ask God to give you a spirit of peace. Also that you will trust the teacher(s) that God has put into your child’s life to teach them and help them grow in a positive way. That your child will have favor with their teachers and school.
- Think Positively-
Instead of thinking about bad things that could happen, think about the positive. When your children tell you they had a great day be grateful and don’t think well we’ll see about tomorrow.
- Speak Positively-
Say things such as: my child is going to have a wonderful school year this year! I am going to work with my child to help him or her learn and have the best experience that they can this year.
- Become knowledgeable-
Meet with their teachers and become knowledgeable of how they teach and what they expect. Make sure you know the school policies as well.
- Talk to other moms-
Talk to other moms with kids in school or moms who have had kids in school. It’s always great to know you are alone and to learn from other moms. If you haven’t heard of MOPS International, check out my blog post about it here. It is such an awesome group that I am still a member of for moms!
- Trust God-
Again, trust God. Know that everything that happens is a reason for growth. Know that no matter what comes your way, God is with you and to seek Him on what decisions to make. Don’t stress over what may happen in the future when it hasn’t happened yet or may never happen.
